Ben Goertzel delivers Google TechTalk
Ben and I had the pleasure of visiting the sprightly Googleplex on May 30th, 2007 where Ben delivered a 60 minute Google TechTalk (Artificial General Intelligence: Now Is the Time) and was generously introduced by Google’s Director of Research, Peter Norvig (yes, that Peter Norvig). Ben recounted the occasion over at his blog, giving some fairly strong reasoning on why Google is probably not hot on the trail of creating AGI anytime soon. I made a couple of comments at my blog to remember this fun event as well.

I have been self studying the Singularity everyday since Oct 2006 after an epiphany from a Ray Kurzweil video on C-Span.
Your approach is one of the best I have come across.
I wonder if there needs to be multiple sets of lower intelligence algorithms that have minds of there own and can solve the lower level pattern recogintions in a self learning way and then rolls-up their result to the next level set that does a simular process and then rolls-up to the final set that produces the highest level of intelligence result of the given task.
This may help with the explosion problem. Just a thought I had when I was listening to you.
On another subject. Do you have a wish list on advances in the enabling technologies of nano-tech and genomics that you can share. I would like to track them on the web to get an idea as to when all this will lead to a target year for the Singularity. My intuitive guess is 2012! As the Mayans are telling us.
Keep up the “Good” work.

I have just watched your presentation (with unfortunate sound level) at google video. I must say I’m quite impressed.. I’ve been tossing around an idea about developing AI system for quite some time now - and you’ve pretty much summed it up the way I see it (with several different perspectives which I think are more philosophical in nature).
I have two questions for you:
- Do you think current technology which you have developed could be applied to object recognition in computer vision? I know of several really practical and commercially viable applications for it, if it could - ofcourse.
- You spoke about MOSES algorithm your partner developed for, if I’m not mistaken, his PhD.. do you know where could I find some more information about it? It seems like a really interesting topic, but “moses” gives you quite a few irrelevant search results
thank you
